So much has been going on this summer, I just didn ‘t feel like playing in the blog world. The real world had so much to offer that I stayed outside, reading up a storm and with the kids most of the summer.
We are back to homeschooling, AO modified Year 3, my own invention as the twins are not reading well enough for Year 3 and there were so many books we had not yet read so I just took all the books we had missed, added math, phonics and reading and off we went.
Why do boys take so much longer to become real proficient readers? I have racked my brain trying to find ways to get them to read but they would rather play Hot Wheels, build with Legos, play outside, ride bikes or go swimming. Maybe this is why young men in Victorian times did not get sent off to boarding schools until they were 9 or 10.
We are back to Community Bible Study this year again. I am a core group leader, the twins are in the homeschool class and Hopalong in the 4 yr old class. He loves it and they do too. We are studying Genesis and if the entire year is as great as the first 3 lessons, we are in for a treat.
The weather had cooled off and it is turning into a brilliant Texas fall, well early fall. Ike dumped a ton of rain on my yard and I am enjoying late tomatos and peppers from our garden. We have been shooting archery in the backyard the past few nights and I have the bruises to prove it. Where did I put my arm guard?
I have been trying to work on getting my fall/winter clothes together. I just can’t figure out what 40-something’s wear to be stylish, put together and yet comfortable to chase around three boys. I don’t want to dress like a teenager but definitely not like a 60 year old. Dowdy is not in my vocabulary. Dressing in style is improtant to me. I know some people don’t care about clothes and if this is you, just skip on down to the next paragraph. I really like classic tailored clothes but just can’t afford them. So I shop the sales, check out the local resale shop, make a few skirts and try to keep it all together.
I am going to try to post at least once a week and write something to keep my brain active and engaged. But I make no promices.

Glad you are back. I enjoy hearing about your clan. We have the opposite problem big sister would rather read than anything in the world. We have to bribe to get her outside. Our favorites this summer were the Peter & the Starcatcher series by Dave Barry & The Warriors series by Erin Hunt. If your boys have not found them yet they are a must read. They are advanced but well worth it! Happy fall

Glad you are back. I check in every now and then and was starting to get a little worried.:) You will be a great core leader. Is this your first year? Is Tricia still in your class?

Wandering back over here today, and found that although I’d read this awhile back, I didn’t comment (must’ve had a baby in hands, imagine that!)… I just wanted to encourage you concerning your boys’ reading. Nathan, who’s now 12 didn’t really start reading ALOT for pleasure, and proficiently, until last year. He’d wanted to read “The Hobbit” for years, but I told him he had to wait and read a few other chapter books on his own first. I finally figured he was ready in Dec. of last year, and within a period two months, he read that, and two other novels as well! I was floored and elated… it’ll come.
I didn’t pressure him, just read to him lots. It wasn’t until he was 7yo that he started reading well at all. Now he reads anything, and enjoys all of his AO books (yrs. 5 & 6 right now).
